Camera Surveillance

  • Die Wilgers area has several Early Warning, Artificially Intelligent Security System (EWAISS) cameras installed which are monitored by ComSafe.

  • EWAISS Cameras are currently deployed at the corners of:

    • Rossouw & Uitspan
    • Rossouw & Karwats
    • Swaardlelie & Prinia
    • Swaardlelie & Kosmos
    • Swaardlelie & Frank
    • Farm & Power

Each point has several cameras, each with different functionalities like Number Plate Recognition, Facial Recognition and Human Detection. All these camera’s information is monitored by a software system based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The system is linked to several country wide anti-crime data base systems and warns ComSafe’s control centre and other security companies linked to the system, whenever a suspect vehicle enters the area. ComSafe’s reaction vehicles are dispatched to follow the suspects and thus pressurise them to leave the suburb, which in experience, they usually do.

Right now ComSafe is in the process of deploying EWAISS in the Western part of Die Wilgers as well.

The cost of this sophisticated system is extremely high and born primarily by ComSafe and partially by the DWRA. Some sponsors in the East have come forward and are indeed appreciated.

Security Tips

Before driving into your drive way, check if you see anyone in the vicinity. If you see something suspicious, rather drive past your house and call your security company to escort you into your home. Screen any workers accessing your property and do not pick people up on the side of the road for day jobs. Have copies of identity documents for all people entering your home. Check if a car has been following you from a shopping centre/airport/casino. If so, loop around the block for a bit to make sure. Call your security company to link up with you and escort you home. To detect potential theft of Gate Motors, it is useful to have gate sensors installed, to protect your motor and alert you if someone is tampering with your motorised gate. Use/install an alarm system – make sure there are signs up from your monitoring company. Get to know your neighbours – and join the street Whats App groups. Have adequate lighting around your property. Cover your windows – By investing in good blinds or curtains, you prevent potential intruders from seeing your possessions, including electronics. Install burglar bars and security gates.
  • Don’t leave dustbins outside overnight. They are very useful to climb onto and jump over a fence.
  • Responders often struggle to identify a property correctly, especially at night. Consider having a reflective sign painted on the pavement in front of your driveway-entry to your house.
  • ComSafe responders will look for emergency information behind your front door, or your kitchen door. It is encouraged that you place emergency information in a zip-lock bag or plastic sleeve for them to have information at hand to assist you. This should include:

    • First names of residents in the house, their ages and gender.
    • Medical conditions of each resident, if relevant.
    • Name of medical aid.

  • Use the In Case of Emergency (ICE) function on your phone. This will put your emergency contact’s phone number on the lock screen, so that responders can call to:

    • Identify you
    • Alert your emergency contact to an event.

  • If you have purchased any electronic equipment or other item of value, do not throw the packaging away in your municipal waste, as this alerts spotters as to valuables on your property. Rather travel to Makro at Silverlakes to dispose of these.

It is important to contact your security company from time to time, to provide a risk assessment and security improvement advice for your personal needs and your property.
